And now, from the Dead White Guy files: Shostakovich’s music is stark, furious, and sensitive.  Have a listen.

(^not the best violinist that ever did this concerto, but the pictures that go with the video are great.)

    This music is so beautiful. The violin concerto you posted is perfect. I love how the violin has an almost vocal quality to it; it almost sounds like the violin is singing. The dissonance and screechy sounds midway through the piece also fit perfectly with the rest of the piece’s mood.
    The cello concerto is fun too.
